Beethoven Piano Trios gain Editor's Choice award in Gramophone magazine

The disc of Beethoven Piano Trios played by the Cropper Welsh Roscoe Trio has been award an Editor’s Choice in the May edition of Gramophone magazine.

An excerpt of the Scherzo from Op 97 can be heard on the Gramophone player at http://www.gramophone.co.uk for the next month.

Aronowitz Ensemble release new film

This film captures the exuberance and idealism of the Aronowitz Ensemble - seven talented musicians undaunted by the rarity of repertoire for their unusual combination of six strings and piano. Flexibility and commissioning are the keys to their continued success and dynamism. It was partly filmed at The Forge in London’s Camden Town where the Aronowitz Ensemble is presenting its series of concerts From One to Seven. Elias String Quartet in Critics’ Pick of the Year 2010 on CD Review

The Elias String Quartet’s disc of Britten string quartets was featured in Critic’s Pick of the Year on Radio 3 CD Review, on Saturday 4th December. Andrew McGregor was joined by Rob Cowan, Hilary Finch and Jeremy Summerly for their annual round-up of some favourite releases of 2010.

Andrew introduced it, saying “a recording that impressed me mightily when it appeared in April”. Rob Cowan commented “wonderful, and I’d certainly buy it, no question of that “.

BBC Radio 3 CD Review Disc of the Week

Andrew McGregor has chosen the Britten string quartets from the The Elias String Quartet as his Disc of the Week on BBC Radio 3 this week.

He commented ”There’s seriously stiff competition in the Britten Quartets on disc, perhaps most recently from the Belcea Quartet, who offer all three of the Britten Quartets on two discs. Let’s hope there’s a second disc to come from the Elias Quartet, as this one is already an imaginative and deeply satisfying alternative.”
