Rebecca Jones, viola

Rebecca Jones completed her studies at the Universitaet Mozarteum in Salzburg in September 2005 where she was a pupil of Thomas Riebl. While a student there, she was invited to perform the Balcom concerto for viola and cello with the Universitt Mozarteum Orchestra under Dennis Russell Davies. This performance, part of Salzburg's 'Mozartwoche', was broadcast on Austrian national radio.

Before going to Salzburg, Rebecca was a student of Wen Zhou Li and Roger Bigley at the RNCM, where she was awarded a distinction for her professional performance diploma. During her time at the RNCM she won a major scholarship, the Thomas Barrett Memorial Prize, and the Granada and Hirsch Prizes for chamber music. She also won a Concerto Prize, giving her the opportunity to perform the Bartok viola concerto with the RNCM symphony orchestra.

In addition, Rebecca has been successful in national and international competitions including second prize in the Texaco Young Musician of Wales, fourth prize in the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, the Bernard Shore Scholarship for viola (part of the Royal Overseas League Competition), the Trevor Snode Memorial Prize (from the Martin Musical Scholarship fund) and second prize in the NYOS Staffa competition. She also received a 'star award' from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and plays with a Finkel bow bought by the Myra Hess Trust.
